If you suffer from anxiety, you will know the feeling. You wake up and the feeling of dread, your mind is racing, and you can't think straight. I've come up with six easy ways to calm an anxious mind, which you hopefully will find useful if you suffer.
1. Go for a walk
The act of walking will help boost feel-good feelings. It is also a good way to distract yourself. Look around you. Mindfully appreciate the view and take some deep breaths.
2. Read a book or watch a film
I find it difficult to read when I feel anxious, but if I can, it is an easy form of escapism. If I can't concentrate enough to read, I watch a film I have seen before. Preferably a comedy. Laughter can help to calm an anxious mind.
3. Learn a language
Duolingo is my new best friend. I love going on it every day for around 15 minutes and completing the activities.
4. Write down how you are feeling
Journaling can be a great way to write down how you are feeling. It also allows you to look at things from a different angle. For example, if you feel anxious because you have to talk to someone. You can think ahead of what you can say or the possible outcomes.
Last week I was annoyed with myself because I didn't have the confidence to confront someone. Then I decided to confront them. So guess what my anxious mind kicked in. I wrote down how I felt and some of the things I wanted to say.
5. Talk about it
Probably one of the best ways to calm an anxious mind is to talk to someone about how you are feeling. Whether that be a trusted friend or seeking professional counselling.
6. Do easy tasks
Doing easy tasks such as cleaning out cupboards or scanning invoices. These sort of easy tasks an not only calm your mind but can also give you a sense of achievement.
Just think if you've decluttered your space, you have more space and you will feel more organised and productive.
Nice post! I agree, reading can be difficult when your mind is at 100 miles per hour - I find that journaling helps me a lot more when I'm anxious 😊
